In this issue, Mr. Fredrik Thors, Manager of Hagglunds Products and Solutions, Bosch Rexroth Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, sat down with us to give us an interview on the products and services that the company offers and how they could be just what sugar mills in Thailand are looking for.

Since 2008, Hagglunds Products and Solutions have been part of Bosch Rexroth. To meet our customer’s needs, we want to have a strong presence in Thailand. Our Hagglunds products and solutions are perfect for the sugar industry and sugar mills that are a strong industry in Thailand.

Introducing the Hagglunds CBm Motor

Our Hagglunds CBm motor is a lightweight and powerful hydraulic motor, that is perfect for the Sugar industry. The motor is well suited for applications with low speed high torque requirements, offers the highest torque to weight ratio in the world, and can provide up to 6000 Nm/bar. Using our Hagglunds Motors will also protect your machine from high shock loads, due to a very low moment of inertia of the motor.

The motor was launched 2012 but has been continuously updated. All our Hagglunds Motors are direct drives connected directly on the customer machine shaft, no need to for any foundations, alignments, weight problems etc.

A Peek into Our Revolutionary Solutions for Sugar Cane Extraction

Independent Roll Drive (IDR) is our most advanced drive solution for crushing mills. It gives our customer maximum flexibility, since each roll can be given its own torque and rotation speed. Combined with our PLC monitoring, our customer can monitor the bagasse density in milling, making sure that the feeding of material into the mill are well compressed for better or improved extraction. Conventional Mill does not have much of such features.

Our Turnkey Solutions Are Key to Efficiency in Sugar Mills

Using our IDR drive solution, our customers can utilize our excellent torque control of the Hagglunds drives; our customers can easily adjust the speed to match different cane types and products qualities. Here, our customers can really optimize their production according to the capacity and the load at hand, as well as minimize power consumption. With our integrated control, the system allows our customers to have extremely fast pressure control, which detects if the torque is too high, in which case it will directly reduce the speed. This is to minimize unwanted peaks in the system and reduce stress on the machine.

In addition, according to an R&D paper documented in the Sugar Council in Australia, by removing the conventional mill pinion gears, the efficiency of the milling tandem can improve about 8% to 10%

Bosch Rexroth, Adoption of Industry 4.0

Our Hagglunds connectivity package Hagglunds Inside Intelligence includes what is called Hagglunds CMp. This is condition-based monitoring with advanced analytics and expert advice enabling true predictive maintenance. It is a package sold with the service agreement. With this system, we can see a machine health index that shows analytics of the running condition of the system in a smart and simple way, and on a regular basis the customer will get a report from a Hagglunds service expert and will have full possibility to plan any maintenance in advance. End-users will, of course, have access to this data as well, which, as specified in the service agreement, will never be shared with third parties. We believe that this is a truly smart solution leading to real optimization.

Hagglunds CMp was released last year, and so far, we have sold around 100 systems across the world. Based on the feedback, they have been working very well. This is certainly a system that end-users should consider adopting.

To optimize the mill correctly, we always seek to gain insights into our customer’s values first. With our great application knowledge and strong global and local teams, we can design and optimize the mill for absolute best performance. However, we always need to know and understand our customer needs and find their values. That is the key for us.

Additional Bosch Rexroth, as an innovative technology supplier today, our system can use remote monitoring system IoT. 4.0. Allowing our end user to access the operational of the system from the Head office, as most Sugar Plants are in very remoted areas.

Our business model is to work closely with our customers. Today, Bosch Rexroth has already made a direct investment in Thailand. We have invested in a very nice workshop to be close to our end-users. We are also working to further inspire trust and confidence in Bosch Rexroth repair services as we continue to develop our resources to meet our customers’ needs.

Balancing Challenges and Opportunities

However, although Thailand is the second largest sugar exporting nation next to Brazil, most of its factories are very conventional as most were established in the 60’s. There is a great potential for upgrading and they have a great opportunity to take big leaps forward with time.

Thailand is a very interesting market with a growing economy. It will be very interesting to follow our growth in Thailand, and I feel quite confident that we will achieve great success together with our customers and partners.
