The sweet world of STATEC BINDER
How sugar is packed worldwide with the help of STATEC BINDER machines
From Austria to the world: from Asia to North America to South America, on to Africa and back to Europe: packaging machines and palletizing systems from STATEC BINDER are in use in the sugar industry worldwide. Both large sugar producers and smaller companies in the industry are among the Austrian machine builder’s customer base. Whether fully automatic or manual machines are required, the packaging expert is able to offer each of its customers the right system for their high demands and requirements.
For over 25 years, bagging systems from STATEC BINDER have been successfully used in the sugar industry. Thanks to its many years of experience, STATEC BINDER is now one of the most sought-after specialists when it comes to sugar packaging and palletizing.
“For a long time, our main business was manufacturing packaging machines for fertilizers. Of course, STATEC BINDER has always been involved with some projects for other industries, such as salt producers and the petrochemical industry. Over the years, we have established ourselves as a specialist in the packaging and palletizing of all types of free-flowing bulk materials. We received inquiries from a wide variety of industries, which led us to start manufacturing packaging machines for the sugar industry in the 1990s,” says Josef Lorger, Managing Director of STATEC BINDER GmbH, explaining the development of the Austrian company.
“Today, the food sector, especially the sugar industry, is one of the most important industries for us. With the progressive changeover to fully automatic packaging and palletizing systems, it is becoming increasingly important for customers to find a competent and reliable partner. We therefore see it as our task to support customers in the changeover to fully automatic packaging lines and to provide them with the best possible advice and support,” Josef Lorger continues.

Open-mouth bagging systems are ideally suited for bagging sugar. Due to corrosive and abrasive properties of sugar, particular importance is attached to stainless parts of STATEC BINDER packaging machines. As a standard feature, all parts that come into contact with the product are made of stainless steel. To eliminate the risk of dust explosions during the packaging of sugar, all systems for the sugar industry are designed in accordance with ATEX. STATEC BINDER high-performance net weighers and bag closing systems ensure precise weighing and dosing, as well as a secure closure of bags.
Standing as one of the most efficient machines out of the broad product portfolio of STATEC BINDER, the PRINCIPAC is also among the fastest open-mouth bagging systems on the globe. As a result of this high performance, the product is in great demand within the sugar industry. High flexibility and reliability characterize this machine. Both pillow bags and gusset bags made of woven PP, PE or paper with a filling weight of 10 kg to 50 kg, can be processed – the PRINCIPAC is prepared for a wide range of applications. With further options available, this bagging machine can be optimally adapted to the specific requirements of customers.
The packaging lines are completed with a STATEC BINDER palletizing system. Depending on the desired output and space requirements, high-performance robotic and high-level palletizers ensure an equally formed layer pattern and stable palletizing and round off the packaging process perfectly.
The PRINCIPAL-H, a high level palletizer, is equipped with an empty pallet magazine and an outfeed system. A bag flattener assures that the bags are “in shape” for stacking, and a servomotor-driven overhead rotating device, that positions the bags according to the requirements, makes flexible layer patterns possible. Well-structured layer patterns are guaranteed through a synchronous belt drive of the layer pusher and through motor-driven front and side shifters. The high-performance robot palletizer PRINCIPAL-R, a robot palletizing system, stands as a flexible customer-specific solution which can be easily adapted to different requirements. A special feature of this machine is, that it has been optimized for sling bags. Robots with 4 axes and a rotation of up to 360° enable a fast and repeatable movement.
Due to the stable and robust design, the long product life cycles and the high reliability of the systems, STATEC BINDER is a sought-after partner when it comes to bagging and palletizing sugar. By working closely with customers to develop the perfect solution for bagging and palletizing a wide variety of products, the Austrian company proves time and again that its customers’ needs are its top priority.
