TSM GROUP Opens Thailand’s First Sustainable Bio CO₂ Sugar Plant
TSM Group is advancing toward becoming a fully sustainable organization. One of its affiliate companies has launched Thailand’s first Sustainable Bio CO₂ production facility within a sugar factory. The project efficiently utilizes resources from the ethanol production process to generate carbon dioxide gas for use across various industries, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create added value from bio-based resources. The company also plans to expand its production capacity from 120 tons per day to meet both domestic and international demand in the future.

TSM Group places sustainability and efficiency at the heart of its operations, building on an environmentally friendly agricultural business model that emphasizes circular resource utilization. Most recently, Thai Sugar Ethanol Co., Ltd., one of the group’s key companies, inaugurated a Sustainable Bio CO₂ plant that captures carbon dioxide from ethanol derived from molasses. Located in Tha Mai Subdistrict, Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi Province, this facility is the first sugar factory in Thailand to produce Bio CO₂ using advanced Carbon Capture Usage (CCU) technology imported from Germany.
The Sustainable Bio CO₂ Project captures CO₂ generated during ethanol production from molasses, which is one of the greenhouse gases contributing to climate change, and processes it into high-purity biogenic CO₂ (99.99%). The product has earned international sustainability certifications from both the European Union (EU) and the United States (US). This biogenic CO₂ provides an eco-friendly alternative for industries seeking to operate sustainably, using low-carbon-footprint. Its applications cover a wide range of sectors, including medical, agricultural, energy, and particularly the food and beverage industries. The project not only allows the factory to maximize the value of its production byproducts but also significantly reduces environmental impact, demonstrating TSM Group’s commitment to sustainability.

Jetsada Wongwatanasin, Managing Director of Thai Sugar Ethanol Co., Ltd., stated: “The Sustainable Bio CO₂ plant represents a key initiative in carbon management within our core sugar business. By transforming CO₂ from ethanol production into a high-value, sustainable product, we are addressing environmental pollution while enhancing business efficiency. This aligns perfectly with TSM Group’s sustainability principles. It marks an important milestone for both Kanchanaburi Province and Thailand as we move toward a greener future, strengthening local and national economic growth.” Jetsada also noted that “the company had the honor of welcoming Mr. Athisan Inthatra, Governor of Kanchanaburi Province, who visited the plant to observe its operations.”
Athisan Inthatra, Governor of Kanchanaburi Province, highlighted the province’s commitment to environmental preservation. The provincial administration has established policies encouraging factories to adopt eco-friendly production and management systems. Such efforts not only reduce pollution in local communities but also align with Thailand’s national sustainability strategy, which aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065. He further noted that the Sustainable Bio CO₂ project by Thai Sugar Ethanol Co., Ltd. serves as a model initiative for other industries in Kanchanaburi, inspiring them to develop and adopt more environmentally responsible practices in the future.
Currently, the project can capture and process up to 120 tons of CO₂ per day, with continuous plans for capacity expansion to meet both domestic and international market needs. This development aligns with Thailand’s transition toward a circular economy, utilizing cutting-edge technology to drive sustainable industrial growth. The project also underscores the Thai sugar industry’s commitment to becoming a leader in sustainable technology, reducing carbon footprints, cutting industrial CO₂ emissions, and helping mitigate the impacts of climate change and global warming.
