UBE Drives Green Business, Becomes First in Thai Ethanol Industry to Achieve ISO 14064-1 Certification
Ubon Bio Ethanol Public Company Limited (UBE), a fully integrated cassava producer and processor, is committed to achieving carbon neutrality in its ethanol business and transitioning to a sustainable, environmentally friendly economy. The company has announced it secured ISO 14064-1:2018 certification, an international standard for reporting and verifying greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from organizational activities. This makes UBE the first in the ethanol industry to achieve this milestone. The company is advancing energy management projects and efficient resource utilization throughout its supply chain, while continuously driving technology to reduce GHG emissions by at least 3% in 2025 compared to 2024 levels.
Ms. Sureeyos Kowsurat, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Ubon Bio Ethanol Public Company Limited (UBE), a major producer and distributor of processed cassava products in Thailand, stated that the UBE Group has prioritized sustainable business development alongside social and environmental progress since its inception and continues to do so. The company is dedicated to achieving “Carbon Neutrality” by reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions into the atmosphere across all operational processes, facilitating a transition to a sustainable, environmentally friendly economy. UBE recognizes that reducing greenhouse gases is not only an environmental imperative but also a strategic business advantage, helping to cut costs, enhance management efficiency, and build long-term supply chain stability.
Most recently, the company received ISO 14064-1:2018 certification from SGS United Kingdom Ltd and Carbon Footprint for Organization certification from SGS (Thailand) Limited. Ms. Pranee Rungmanochai, Managing Director of SGS (Thailand) Limited, presented the certifications. UBE is the first company in the ethanol industry to receive ISO 14064-1:2018, reflecting the organization’s commitment to addressing climate change and pursuing long-term sustainable business practices. ISO 14064-1 is an international standard for reporting and verifying GHG emissions from organizational activities. Ubon Bio Ethanol Public Company Limited and its subsidiaries, collectively known as “UBE Group,” prepared their Carbon Footprint of Organization (CFO) to quantify GHG emissions from various activities starting in January 2024 and successfully achieved certification in March 2025.
Furthermore, with strong determination, the UBE Group continues to develop and improve its production processes under projects focused on energy management, water reduction, and other technologies that systematically reduce CO2 emissions. This applies to both ethanol and cassava starch production processes, demonstrating that the organization has integrated sustainability principles into all operational aspects, including production, resource utilization, and technology investments. The goal is to reduce GHG emissions from production by at least 3% in 2025 compared to 2024.
