OCSB Discusses Technology Transfer with Indonesian Sugar Mill Owners to Promote Sustainable Industry
Mr. Bainoy Suwanchatree, the Secretary General of the Office of the Cane and Sugar Board (OCSB), announced that he had assigned Mr. Samart Noivun, Deputy Secretary-General of the OCSB, to welcome a delegation of Indonesian sugar mill executives. The reception was also attended by Mr. Thawat Hamarn, Director of the Strategy and Planning Division; Mr. Jirawat Damsi, Policy and Sugar Industry Development Specialist; Mr. Pairat Chuaybamrung, Director of the Bio-Industry Division; and OCSB officials.
On this occasion, the delegates attended a briefing on the role and responsibilities of the Office of the Cane and Sugar Board (OCSB) as stipulated by the Cane and Sugar Act of 1984 and 2022. The session covered an overview of Thailand’s cane cultivation and sugar production, as well as the CSB’s operations under the BCG model, which aims to enhance value creation and promote a sustainable, environmentally friendly sugar industry.

Indonesia plans to develop its cane and sugar industry to be more sustainable and self-sufficient to meet domestic consumption needs. The country is also interested in expanding the range of cane-based products. Insights gained from this study visit to Thailand are expected to be beneficial and could lead to future collaboration between the two nations.
During the visit, Mr. Pairat Chuaybamrung, Director of the Bio-Industry Division, along with officials, led the Indonesian sugar mill executives on a tour of the Bio-Industry Promotion Center in Chonburi Province.
During the visit, the delegation attended a briefing on the mission, responsibilities, and past-year performance of the Bio-Industry Promotion Center. They also toured the testing laboratory and observed production process demonstrations to study technologies for managing cane by-products and advancing Thailand’s bio-industry. The visit focused on adding value to cane and related industries through the development of bio-based products.

Indonesia plans to develop and expand its cane and sugar industry into future industries, similar to Thailand’s approach. Th meeting of the Indonesian delegates presents a key opportunity for knowledge exchange, sharing experiences, and exploring development strategies for the cane and sugar industry. Both countries aim to elevate the industry towards a high-value, environmentally friendly bio-industry, while strengthening the cane and sugar sectors in both nations.
